LGBTQ+ Awareness for EMS & FIRE

Description: This course includes 8 hours of interactive instruction designed to address the following learning outcomes:

• The student will explain the difference between sexual orientation and gender identity and how these two aspects of identity relate to each other and to race, culture and religion.
• The student will define terminology used to describe sexual orientation and gender identity.

• The student will identify ways to create an inclusive workplace and to support LGBTQ+ co-workers.
• The student will identify key moments in the LGBTQ+ civil rights movement.

Participants will have access to a complete training package for the LGBT Awareness For EMS and FIRE course including a student workbook and the instructor guide with course outlines, lesson plans, and learning activities (all in PDF format) and hard copy textbook. This course is presented in partnership with Out To Protect Inc.

DATE: Thursday, October XX, 2024 – 08:30 to 16:30

COST: General Admission: $100.00 / IEFPA Member *$80 includes course fees, materials, certificate, and lunch.

LOCATION: The Center on Colfax – Stonewall Conference Room

CERTIFICATIONS: Course Completion Certificate will be presented to attendees.

REGISTRATION: Payment in full is due at the time of registration and becomes non–refundable 10 days prior to the start of the class. Payment by credit or debit card. ACH transfers from agencies and departments are accepted.

Attire: Casual attire required. Smoking, vaping, and use of all tobacco products is prohibited.

Required Equipment: Students are required to bring a laptop computer. Access to Wi-Fi will be provided onsite.

Parking: The Center on Colfax parking lot.
